I am currently living and working in Washington DC and am continuing my efforts to improve literacy levels in the nation's capital. I work as a Lifelong Learning Coach through the DC Mayor's Lifelong Learning Initiative. My site placement as a Coach is at an employment training center called Project Empowerment where I coordinate and teach adult education classes. My experience in Literacy*AmeriCorps opened my eyes to the literacy needs that many of our cities face and gave me confidence and skills to continue to carry on this important mission. The Literacy Coalition as an organization provided an amazing example of how effective a group of committed individuals can be in working to eradicate illiteracy.
