My name is Marie Corbitt and I’m from Ohio.  I graduated from Ohio State University this year with an English Degree because I love books and I love to read and write.  After graduation, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do and I had heard of Americorps, so I decided to look into it.  Once I saw the description of Literacy Americorps in Florida, I knew it would be perfect. Since I came down, I’ve been very lucky.  My fellow Americorps teammates are wonderful, fun, and crazy and I also got placed at a great site: DePorres P.L.A.C.E.  The people I work with know everything about teaching, especially the director Sister Margaret, so they can always help me out since I’m just a beginner.  I’m teaching about 19 adult students at different levels in classes broken down into an hour and a half and they are all great. This experience is definitely going to help me decide what to do in the future.  I’m getting great teaching experience as well as library experience, which are two fields that I’m very interested in.  I’m not sure what I’m going to do after this year, but it’ll probably have something to do with books!  I’m very grateful to be doing what I am.  It’s a really amazing experience and the students make all of the hard work more than worthwhile.
