Share the Power of Reading
and Support Early Childhood Literacy

On Thursday, October 2, thousands of parents, caregivers and other adults across the nation will read Corduroy by Don Freeman to children in their care. One in three children enters kindergarten unprepared to succeed. Jumpstart’s Read for the Record is a campaign designed to bring attention to the importance of early education. By encouraging hundreds of thousands of children and adults to read the same book on the same day, Jumpstart aims to break a world record and make early education a national priority.

The local campaign is coordinated by the Palm Beach County Literacy Coalition in partnership with Family Central, Inc. and WXEL Television and Radio. Children’s Services Council is providing campaign funding and resources. Staff at many local childcare centers will read the book to the children in their centers.
