What is a typical day like for AmeriCorps members in the program?
This is a difficult question to answer since each AmeriCorps member has a unique assignment and is placed individually at a service site. You can expect to serve 35-40 hours per week at a school, youth program, adult literacy center, or community agency tutoring and teaching adults, parents, children or teens.
Most Fridays are team meeting and training days. These are opportunities to continue professional development, work with your AmeriCorps team on special projects and community service activities, and assume leadership roles in a variety of areas.
You will also participate in community service projects, literacy training events and conferences, and grassroots outreach on occasional Saturdays, about 2 per month, depending on the community calendar and the AmeriCorps calendar.
